Before I forget

I grew up in a home full of spontaneousness (not sure that is a real word). Never a dull moment. We took last minute camping trips, road trips, and adventures quite often. We have been known to go right when we should go left. Although this may get us in to some trouble, we have fun.

Go back 9 years. It was a sunny day in Arizona. A Friday to be exact. I was wearing overall shorts with a blue shirt underneath. With hair pulled back in a pony tail and back pack strapped on, I walked into Mrs. Daniel's class to begin another day in 6th grade. We took our Friday spelling test and began the lesson for the rest of the day. At approximately 9 AM, the phone rang. Now anyone who went to school knows how it feels when a teacher gets a call. Since it was usually about a student who would be leaving early, all heads turned and waited with great anticipation the announcement of the name of the lucky student who's parent loved them enough to come get them. Not that my parents didn't love me, but pulling me out of school was not their style, so I tried not to get my hopes up too much. Contrary to what I believed, my name was called and I was elated! Each kid in the classroom let out a sigh of disappointment as I was told to gather my things because my mom was waiting for me in the office. Upon walking into the office, I was greeted by my mom and waved goodbye to the office ladies as she escorted me to our car. Being the curious mind that I was, I asked her why she pulled me out. She told me she had a surprise. We hopped in the car and began driving. Finally after about twenty minutes, my mom told me that we were going to Mexico for the day and were going to stop in Tuscon on the way. Mexico was a normal spot for us to visit since we live so close, but instead of the usual Rocky Point, my mom was taking me to Nogales and I had never been before. We drove for a couple of hours talking about anything and everything under the sun. We reached Tuscon about Noon and stopped and got lunch at my mom's favorite sand which shop, Eegees. I had never been there before and it was as delicious as my mom claimed it to be. After lunch, she drove me around and showed me where she grew up, where she met my dad, where I was born, and the house we lived in. Our last stop was to visit and old friend, Sylvia, and head on into Mexico. I love Mexico. Some of my happiest memories happened there, so it was only natural that I became excited as we waited as border control checked us out and let us cross.  There was only one thing to do where we were going: SHOP. Normally, I don't really enjoy shopping, but there is something about doing it in a foreign country that is so exciting.  It was beautiful! With the sun shining and music playing in the streets, we walked through the markets looking at jewelery, clothing, and other miscellaneous items and bought a few things here and there. There were so many colors and so many things to look at! The great thing about Mexican vendors is that the prices are not set. If you know how to sweet talk them just right, you can haggle the price down pretty low. My mom is an expert at it, so we never paid full price for anything. We even had a man follow us around because my mom said no to his price and kept wagering. Eventually, he gave in, and my mom got the sandals she wanted and he threw in a necklace I had my eye on too! I wish I could say I still had this necklace, but it broke; it was a tragedy and I cried for days. Once it started to get dark, we head back to our car to drive home to Mesa. I was so sleepy, but stayed awake the whole time. I didn't want to miss one single moment of this Mother/Daughter time I was getting. We talked about anything and everything under the stars.
It was a perfect day, a dream come true! I was (and still am) the luckiest girl in the whole wide world. How many moms take their daughters on spur of the moment trips to Mexico? Not yours? Gratefully, my mom did. It is a trip I will never forget and hopefully, I will be able to do something like this with my daughters some day.

Congratulations if you held on this long. I hope you enjoyed my story as much as I did! I really just wanted to get this memory down somewhere so it would never be forgotten. It is such a special memory to me and my mom. She truly is a one-of-a-kind lady and I am so lucky to call her "mom." She is there when I need her and has taught me so much. Life would truly be boring without her :)

I love you Momma!
(P.S. She is gonna kill me when she sees this picture. I still think she looks beautiful.)

I came across this quote the other day and since I am a huge fan of quotes, I though I'd share.

"When God is with you, who can be against you? This kind of confidence gives you the power to do things even if you’re afraid, even if you feel you’re not qualified to do them."

-Dieter F. Uchtdorf

What a blessing it is to know that God is always on our side. It is so easy to let the opinions of others distract you from what you are supposed to be doing, but the confidence of our Heavenly Father will supply us with the strength we need.

I'm not generally a fan of covers to songs, but for this band, I will make an exception for

These are only the YouTube versions and are only a fraction of the songs they perform, (they are just some of my favorites) Check the rest of their stuff out on iTunes, enjoy!

Merry Christmas!!!

Today, I am happy, for many different reasons.

- First and foremost, my Father in Heaven has given me a very blessed life. He has always been there.
-After a long and stressful week full of finals I am finished and did well.
-I have had the pleasure of spending time with my wonderful friends.
-Christmas is almost here and I get to spend it in sunny Arizona with my family.
-I am healthy and alive.
-I have a place to call home, several in fact.
-I have a job and although I may be called in at 4am to shovel snow, I get to do it with the greatest people alive
-and the list goes on!!!

As you can see, I have many reasons to be happy; therefore, I am happy.

"If you want to be happy, be."

And today was a day just like any other...

I woke up this morning and as usual, went to class and work. Since today was the last day of classes, I thought I could beat the lines and sell back the books I knew I wouldn't need to study for finals. After work, I headed over to Bucks for Books to see what I could get. Something about me is I usually always lock my truck door behind me. Also, I always worry that I am gonna lock my keys in my truck. I knew it would happen eventually, but I didn't think it would be today! Anyways... as I arrived at my destination, I took out my keys, put them on the seat, and gathered all my books. Now, I don't even remember locking the door because it is such a habit; however, as I came back out to my dismay the door was locked and my keys were inside the cab on the seat where I left them. My initial thought was that this could NOT be happening, but then my keys began laughing at me! (Well, not really laughing, but I felt like they were!) Gratefully, I called up my best friend Olivia and she came and picked me up, I went and got my spare keys, and was able to get the door unlocked!

Something should be said about these spare keys. They have NEVER worked before. In my time of desperation, I decided that I would try anyways. I told myself that maybe God will love me a little more today and help me get in. As we pulled up to my truck, I said to Liv, let's have faith and keep a prayer in our hearts that these keys will work. I put the key in and as smooth as butter I turned the lock, and Viola! I was in!! I realized after that the Lord just didn't love me a little extra today, but loves me a lot everyday!!! I am not sure why, but as soon as I got in, I looked to the sky and shouted thanks! It seems silly that I would look to the sky I know, but I wanted Him to know I was thankful and could never had done it without Him. It's a comforting feeling to know that the Lord is always there even when I make silly mistakes.

51.5 hours later...

ahhh. I feel quite accomplished. What a wonderful day to be alive!

Forget about all the reasons why something may not work. You only need to find one good reason why it will.

I have a dear friend. He goes by the name of Joseph. He and I have an interesting relationship some would say. Our phone conversations go something like this...

Julia: Oh hey. Listen, you need to go see what I just posted on your Facebook.
Joseph: Okay... seconds later... Loud laughter. Listen, now go see what I put on yours!
Julia: Loud laughter. You gotta see the comment I put on your picture.
Joseph: Loud Laughter, now go look at what I said in response.

This goes on for a while but I think you get the idea.

Although you may be wondering why not just wait until one sees it. I say, "why wait when I could call him up and tell him to look at it?!" Besides, who knows when the next time one of us logs in is gonna be!

In conclusion, I am glad to have him as a friend.
